Island Freezer Price: What Affects the Cost

The cost of a commercial island freezer depends mainly on cabinet size, temperature range, lid design, refrigerant, electrical standard, branding and order quantity. Request a quote with your model, quantity and destination market for an exact figure.

Which island freezer types are there, and how do the specs differ?

Senlis builds four island freezer configurations. All of them use R290 refrigerant and a copper pipe evaporator, and all carry CE, RoHS and ISO 9001.

The range shares these features:

• Lid options: curved sliding glass lid, flat glass cover, or double-layer tempered glass lid, depending on the type.
• Night curtain for closed-store hours.
• LED lighting.
• Modular connection: back-to-back or side-by-side, so several cabinets can form one island in the aisle.

Two of the four models list an upper limit above 0 °C (8 °C). If you plan to hold anything other than frozen goods, tell us at the quote stage and we will confirm whether that model fits your product mix.

Does a bigger island freezer always cost more?

Modular layouts change the calculation too. If you are planning a back-to-back island, you are pricing a set of cabinets plus the connection configuration, not one freezer. Give us the layout (for example, “two units back-to-back, 3 islands per store”) and the quote can cover the whole configuration rather than a single unit.

How does the temperature range affect the quote?

The lowest temperature a cabinet holds depends on how its refrigeration system and insulation are specified. Across the Senlis range the lower limit varies from −20 °C to −25 °C.
For ice cream and other deep-frozen lines, buyers often ask for the coldest option by default. Check what your product actually requires before you do. Over-specifying the temperature can push you toward a configuration you don’t need. Under-specifying it is worse, because the cabinet won’t hold your product safely.

Does the refrigerant choice change the price?

It can. R290 (propane) is standard across the island freezer line. Under OEM/ODM orders, Senlis can also build with R134a or R600. Switching refrigerant is not a label change, though. The compressor and the refrigerant charge are matched to the gas, so ask for the quote to be re-run if you change it.
Three points about R290 matter for importers:

• Flammability: ASHRAE classifies R290 as an A3 refrigerant (higher flammability). Installers and service technicians in your market should be trained to handle it.
• Appliance safety: IEC 60335-2-89 is the international safety standard for commercial refrigerating appliances. It sets requirements for units that use flammable refrigerants.
• Regulatory direction: The EU F-Gas Regulation is phasing down high-GWP fluorinated gases. Natural refrigerants such as R290 are the direction of travel for EU-bound equipment. Under the Montreal Protocol’s Kigali Amendment, many other markets are following the same HFC phase-down.

What customization adds to the cost?

Every Сенлис island freezer can be built as an OEM/ODM order. Customization options include:

• Exterior color and your brand logo
• Internal layout, including baskets, lighting and controls
• Voltage and plug standard: 110 V, 220 V or 380 V; US, EU or UK plugs
• Cabinet layout and size
• Packaging (5-layer carton or pallet) and user-manual language

Some of these are minor changes and some involve engineering work. Voltage and plug standard is not optional in practice: a unit built for the wrong grid cannot be sold in your market. Branding and color, on the other hand, are choices you can weigh against your budget. Ask for the quote with and without branding if you are unsure whether it is worth it.

Island freezer or flat top freezer: which is better value?

Compared with flat top chest freezers, island freezers are built for walk-around shopper access and modular rows in the middle of the sales floor. Flat top units suit wall positions and back-of-house storage.

Island freezers have two real drawbacks you should plan for. They need clear aisle space on every side to work as intended; in a tight convenience store that space may not exist. Their glass lids also have to be opened by the shopper, unlike an upright glass-door cabinet at eye level. For impulse frozen lines that is usually acceptable, but it is a layout decision, not just a price one.

Why do two island freezer quotes look so different?

Buyers put two quotes side by side and compare the unit price alone. Before you compare, check that the quotes cover the same things:

• Temperature range. A −20 °C unit and a −25 °C unit are not equivalent.
• Refrigerant. R290, R134a and R600 builds are priced differently.
• Voltage and plug. Make sure both quotes match your grid.
• Lid and glass type. Curved sliding, flat, and double-layer tempered glass are different parts.
• Included features. Night curtain, LED lighting and baskets are not always standard on every supplier’s quote.
• Packaging. A 5-layer carton and a pallet ship and arrive differently.
• Trade terms. Check whether the quote is FOB, EXW or another term. The same unit price means different things under each.
